This Biobank project investigated whether environmental chemicals, such as metals and pesticides, may contribute to a woman’s risk of developing gestational diabetes or gaining excess weight during pregnancy. Researchers also investigated the potential effect of environmental chemical exposure during pregnancy on certain hormones measured in cord blood. These hormones, leptin and adiponectin, are involved in metabolic function and may provide insight into early life origins of childhood growth patterns.
